The arrival of ChatGPT late last year has been a massive disruptor in many areas, with potentially far-reaching effects - not least in search and SEO. In tech it has set off an arms race between the big players, with companies scrambling to put together their own strategies and offerings.

Google at the time reportedly issued a ‘code red’ due to the potentially huge disruption to search by OpenAI’s new chatbot. It has since carried out a large refocus, with 12,000 layoffs, and staff and resources diverted to work on AI products.

Google has now announced a live event for 8 Feb, “using the power of AI to reimagine how people search for, explore and interact with information, making it more natural and intuitive than ever before to find what you need”, according to an invitation published by The Verge.

The YouTube page for the event adds: "Join us to learn how we're opening up greater access to information for people everywhere, through Search, Maps and beyond.”

Google’s rival Microsoft is one of OpenAI's big investors and is also pushing ahead with plans to  revamp its products. It is reportedly planning to integrate ChatGPT into their Bing search engine, with an end-March launch date.
