So how big was the core update, and what was the impact? Here’s what we know so far.

September 2022 core update.

Google announced on September 26th that the September 2022 core update which started on the 12th, had now completed.

Later the same day, it confirmed that the product reviews update, which was released on the 20th, had also finished rolling out.Updates completed.

Broad core updates have a more wide-ranging effect, and tracking companies have been monitoring and reporting on ranking fluctuations.

It seems the September 2022 core update hit hardest soon after release, on 13th and 14th September.

SimilarWeb (who now own RankRanger) said similar levels of volatility were seen in the May and September updates, but digging into position changes for the top 3,5 and 10 results showed the September update resulted in slightly less rank volatility.

Early winners and losers were noted by Sistrix, another company that monitors ranking changes. However, it usually takes a while for the results to settle, so we may get a clearer picture in the coming days.
