Matt Cutts goes on leave. Is YouTube now more popular than live TV?

Matt Cutts where have you been?

Well, last Thursday he announced that he would be taking a few months leave. He spoke of spending time with his wife enjoying ballroom dancing and going on a cruise. His leave means he will not be answering any emails or working but will be back in November. Don’t freak out though - he's left a list of resources for people to go to in his absence along with thanks to his team.

“Thanks to a deep bench of smart engineers and spam fighters, the webspam team is in more-than-capable hands. Seriously, they’re much better at spam fighting than I am, so don’t worry on that score.”

We’ll miss Matt’s Q&A Google Webmasters videos on YouTube but wish him a great break.

Football...

Moving on to the football - whether you’re a fan of the World Cup or not, spying on your social media channels shouldn’t be missed! With Twitter feeds filled with football related tweets, Tuesday’s match was definitely at a peak with angry and devestated words and of course humor!

Here’s a BBC Sporf tweet that I just couldn’t help but laugh at, not to mention the speed of the tweet - just minutes after the final whistle!

We tweeted this story earlier this week via Mashable. A survey by Adroit Digital suggests that YouTube is now more popular than live TV. 2,000 people were surveyed - 68% of viewers said they consume video content from YouTube, 51% consume video from TV and 49% consume content from Netflix. Where do you watch most of your video content?

App contagion

No surprise here… a new study has found Facebook users have a tendency to download the same apps as their friends.

By incorporating figures from the installation of Facebook apps, they found that users selected apps on the basis of recent adoptions by their friends rather than by using the social networking site's equivalent of a best-seller list.”

App of the week

Our app of the week goes to a fun but effective “Get Shit Done!” If you’re looking for something that it a bit more extreme at getting you motivated and productive - then this app is the one for you! It’s basically an organiser with a twist.

The tool lets you set your goals and time in which you want to have completed a task. So, no more distraction, just one mission. It will divide your goal into subgoals, setting consequences for your success or failure and even a smart break management system - meaning you no more procrastination!

This gets the yes from me - I’m a huge fan of lists and to-do lists and I love it when I "check" and see what i’ve accomplished in the day - if only i'd had this as a university student.

What a reviewer had to say:

A no BS, down to business performance timer, with a dash of refreshingly tongue in cheek gung-ho attitude. Very simple, very light, very stable. Only drawback - you absolutely cannot cheat it.

Have a great week!
